Community Partner Spotlight: Center for Jewish Philanthropy

How a shared vision for strengthening community is transforming lives across Greater Phoenix.

At Jewish Free Loan, partnerships are essential to making a meaningful difference. We are proud to work alongside the Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix (CJP), whose shared commitment to helping our community ensures more people receive the assistance they need during challenging times.

Celebrating Recognition

This year, we were honored with the Belle Latchman Community Service Award from CJP, recognizing organizations that meaningfully enhance life in the Greater Phoenix Jewish community. This award highlights our Emergency Loan Program (ELP), which has provided over $300,000 in interest-free loans and $25,000 in food and gas gift cards since its launch in 2019.

The ELP includes:

  • Economic Crisis Response Loans (up to $1,800 per household)
  • Eviction Prevention Loans (up to $5,000 per household)
  • Food and gas card distribution through community partners
  • JFL Care Bags with basic hygiene and household items

Strengthening Our Foundation

We are deeply grateful to the Center for Jewish Philanthropy for their ongoing partnership and belief in our mission. This spring, we were honored to receive a Community Impact Initiative Grant — our first-ever unrestricted general operating support from CJP, in the amount of $18,000.

This investment affirms CJP’s confidence in JFL’s broad impact and allows us to strengthen the foundation of our work across all programs and services.

Voices of Impact: Donor Story

By Rabbi Sadie & Andy Becker

Coming from a family of Jewish Free Loan (JFL) supporters, attending ‘Latkes and Loans’ galas many years in a row, and seeing the impact made on individuals in our local community, we recognize and support the important work JFL does for Arizona.

In the wake of October 7th, we heard that people from our community volunteered to join the IDF, or were called back to Israel for IDF reservist duty. We recognized that this left their families, mortgages, rent, car payments, and bills unattended to in their absence, creating tremendous stress back home while they were on the front lines. Along with our friend, Josh Mondlick, we devised a plan to raise money to support our fellow Jewish Arizonans who were fighting for all Jewish people around the world, defending the land of Israel. We named the fund, ‘AZ IDF Heroes,’ and the goal was to ease the burden of our Heroes’ financial responsibilities at home while they were away.

We were inspired by the 2019 Men’s Mission to Israel led by a group of Jewish philanthropists from Arizona. That network of highly successful individuals wanted to help and contributed a significant portion of the funding for ‘AZ IDF Heroes.’ It would not have been possible without their support.

Time was of the essence for this effort. Working with the Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix and Jewish Free Loan enabled us to distribute funds directly to those who needed it most. This partnership truly allowed us to directly help people in a time of need in our community. Thanks to that cooperation, we were able to make an impact immediately.

As lifelong Phoenicians, we feel proud to be part of a community that not only believes in helping each other, but takes action.
