Susan Sacks’ connection to Jewish Free Loan began long before she personally became involved with the organization. Growing up, Susan often heard stories about how JFL helped her grandfather after his family immigrated from Russia in 1919. Faced with language barriers and confusion in a new country, he turned to JFL for assistance. The organization provided both guidance and financial support, and Susan remembers that her grandfather spoke fondly of its impact throughout her childhood.

When Susan moved to Arizona, she became friends with several people in the community who had ties to JFL, including JFL’s former Executive Director Tina Sheinbein.  “The stories I heard from Tina, combined with the memories of my grandfather’s experience, inspired my late husband, Jim Andrews, and me to establish a general fund to help others in need,” said Sacks.  

Today, that commitment feels more meaningful than ever. With a challenging job market, many individuals and families face financial uncertainty. JFL’s mission remains as important as it has ever been. “What I especially appreciate is the dignity with which assistance is provided. Every loan is confidential, allowing recipients to receive support without embarrassment or fear of judgement,” said Sacks.

Sacks believes it is vital to support our local Jewish community to ensure a vibrant Jewish future here in Arizona. “Organizations like JFL embody the values of compassion, responsibility, and mutual support that have sustained our community for generations. When Jews help other Jews, our entire community grows stronger. I am proud to support Jewish Free Loan and the life-changing work it continues to do every day,” adds Sacks.
